Chris Newson

Environment, Health & Safety Director, Make UK

Chris Newson is Health, Safety & Sustainability Director at Make UK. He is responsible for ensuring Make UK customers get the best environmental, health and safety consultancy and training. Chris leads on Make UK's mission to promote and improve health, safety, and environmental management in manufacturing organisations across the UK. Chris works closely with professional bodies, including IOSH and the HSE, to ensure that EHS professionals of the future are not only technically competent but also have the skills to inspire others.

Chris joined Make UK in 2007 as HSCE Leader, before progressing to Principal Adviser, then Product Development and Delivery Lead and finally Head of Learning before promotion to his current role. During his' time at Make UK, Chris has developed and delivered bespoke and flagship training courses for a range of organisations within a variety of sectors. He's also been involved in several complex consultancy projects for high-profile clients requiring tailored solutions to EHS challenges.

Chris is a chartered fellow of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH), practitioner member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA) and a qualified mechanical engineer. He started his career as an apprentice in the UK power generation sector. Prior to joining Make UK, Chris was Head of QHSE for Alstom Power Service where he was responsible for the health, safety and well-being of over 3,000 employees.
